The Smartphone Analogy
Before Gardner, people thought intelligence was a single battery (General IQ/The "g" factor). If the battery was low, you were "dumb."
Gardner said the brain is like a Smartphone. You might have a terrible Maps app (bad at math), but a world-class Music app (musical genius). The apps operate independently. Damage to one does not destroy the others.
INTER-personal
🤝Understanding OTHERS.
The INTERnet connects you to the outside world.
Careers: Politicians, Therapists, Salespeople, Teachers.
(They can read the moods and motives of other people).
INTRA-personal
🧘Understanding YOURSELF.
Think INTRA-venous (inside the vein). It looks inward.
Careers: Philosophers, Monks, Writers.
(They know their own fears, strengths, and emotions perfectly).

Linguistic
"Word Smart"
Masters of language, storytelling, and persuasion.
Examples: Poets (T.S. Eliot), Journalists, Lawyers.
Logical-Mathematical
"Number Smart"
Pattern recognition, scientific reasoning, and math.
Examples: Albert Einstein, Computer Programmers.
Spatial / Visual
"Picture Smart"
Can mentally rotate 3D objects and navigate easily.
Examples: Architects, Sculptors, Sailors, Pilots.
Bodily-Kinesthetic
"Body Smart"
Using the body to solve problems or create products.
Examples: Athletes, Dancers, Surgeons.
Musical
"Music Smart"
Sensitivity to pitch, rhythm, tone, and melody.
Examples: Composers (Mozart), Singers, DJs.
Naturalistic
"Nature Smart"
Ability to classify flora, fauna, and environmental features.
Examples: Farmers, Botanists, Biologists (Darwin).
The Pedagogy "Teacher Rule"
A teacher should: Use multiple teaching methods for the same topic. If teaching fractions, write numbers on the board (Logical), cut an actual apple (Spatial/Kinesthetic), and have students do group work (Interpersonal) so every type of intelligence is engaged.
A teacher should NEVER: Use a standard IQ test to label a child as "gifted" or "weak," because those tests only measure Logical and Linguistic intelligence, ignoring the other 6 areas completely.
