Bloom's Taxonomy
The Staircase of Human Thought. Moving from "parroting" to "inventing."
🧭 1. The Three Domains of Learning
Benjamin Bloom said we don't just learn facts. We learn in three distinct ways (Head, Heart, and Hands).
Cognitive
(The Head / Knowledge)
Mental skills. Thinking, remembering, analyzing facts. (This is what schools test 99% of the time).
Affective
(The Heart / Attitude)
Feelings, emotions, values, and motivations. (Ex: Learning to respect other cultures).
Psychomotor
(The Hands / Skills)
Manual or physical skills. (Ex: Learning to ride a bike, dissect a frog, or type on a keyboard).
🔺 2. The Cognitive Pyramid
EXAM FOCUS
This is the staircase of thought. You cannot move to a higher step until you have mastered the step below it. The modern version uses Verbs (Actions) instead of Nouns.

"Can you build a new machine?"

Judge, Critique, Defend
"Is this machine actually safe?"
4. Analyze
Compare, Deconstruct, Organize
"How do the parts of this machine work together?"
3. Apply

🔄 3. The 2001 Revision (What changed?)
In 2001, Bloom's students updated the pyramid. You MUST know the two major changes:

1. Nouns to Verbs
"Knowledge" became "Remember." Thinking is an active process.

👑 2. The Top Swapped
In 1956, "Evaluation" was the top. In 2001, they decided that creating something entirely new (Create/Synthesis) requires more intelligence than just judging something. So, "Create" is now the king at the top.
The Pedagogy "Teacher Rule"
Design test questions that target HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skills). Instead of asking "In what year did the battle happen?" (Remember), ask "How would the country be different today if the other side won?" (Analyze/Evaluate).
Get stuck at the bottom of the pyramid. If a child can perfectly recite a poem from memory (Remembering) but cannot tell you what the poem means (Understanding), the teaching has failed.
